CovioIQ vs Applied Epic:
A Lighter Broker CRM Alternative
Applied Epic is an industry-standard broker management system, typically priced by quote with an implementation project. CovioIQ is a lighter CRM with client and policy records, a renewal pipeline and rule-based churn-risk scoring, from $49/month CAD. It is not a full agency management system. Running CovioIQ beside Epic today
Most brokerages on Epic are not shopping for a replacement, and this page is not asking you to consider one. Epic is the system of record. The question worth asking is whether the client follow-up around it is happening anywhere reliable, or in spreadsheets and people's heads.
How the data actually moves
There is no live connection between CovioIQ and Epic. None. Policies come across by CSV export from Epic and import into CovioIQ, which maps client and policy columns and reports what it could not read rather than failing silently. BMS integrations are on the roadmap with no committed date, which is how the integrations page labels them.
A periodic export suits a renewal pipeline that works 90 days ahead. It does not suit anything needing same-day accuracy on policy detail, and for that you stay in Epic. If live two-way sync is a requirement now, this is not the product.
What each one ends up doing
- Epic: policy administration, accounting, carrier download, documents, compliance. The authoritative record.
- CovioIQ: which renewals are coming, which clients look at risk and why, who has been contacted, and what was said. The work that happens between policy transactions.
If that split does not describe a gap you actually have, you do not need a second system. That is a real answer and it is fine.
When to Choose Applied Epic Over CovioIQ
Applied Epic is still the right choice if you:
- Need direct carrier integrations and CSIO downloads (CovioIQ has none yet; connections to carriers and broker management systems are planned with no date committed)
- Have 50+ users and need enterprise SSO / custom workflows
- Require accounting, trust reconciliation and commission statements (CovioIQ is not an accounting system)
- Already have an Applied implementation team and don't want to migrate
For smaller Canadian brokerages that mainly need client, policy and renewal workflows, CovioIQ covers the core CRM at published prices, and you can start with a CSV import.
